Things are improving, but I'm still staying mostly at home. I've found that life has a lot to offer, whether you're inside or out. We wanted to add another dog to our family. My husband (and I) really wanted to get a rescue this time. We had specific needs when it came to rescues. It would have to get along with other dogs, both young and old. It would have to be good with a cat. It would have to be good with small children. It would have to be housebroken. This dog filled all these needs! He lived in a foster home with a small child and two cats. He is super chilled out and has no problem with other animals. He's completely housebroken. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">So, meet Asher! He and Reggie come in from outside exhausted every day from tussling and playing. It's exactly the scenario that we were looking for. He's so sweet and knows several commands. He has found his forever home with us, and we couldn't be more pleased. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Happy spring, everyone!</span></p><p><br /></p>Minervahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16412414063488628467noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7611067468964663197.post-46968389170498890422022-03-13T14:56:00.000-04:002022-03-13T14:56:00.605-04:002022. <p><span style="font-size: large;"> It's been over a year since I've posted anything on here. I probably don't have any more followers or readers. But, here I am. Lots has changed in the last year. I lost four very good friends. Unbelievably, none to Covid. Cancer and other ailments took my friends. All four were from different parts of my life. College, young parenthood, recent life. I have moved through the grief like swimming through molasses. Still grieving, but living my life and being grateful for so many things.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">What else? Oh, we moved! My house that I lived in for over 30 years was put on the market, and we bought another that is OUR house. I loved my previous house. But I lived in it with a former spouse for most of my time there. After I married again, a relative suggested that we get a new house and start fresh. I wasn't ready at first. I really made my former home my own, and then I met my current husband. I wanted to enjoy all of the personal changes that I made to the home before moving. But it was time. And now I love our new house.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Knitting? Oh yes, there's been lots of that. I've been away from blogging. Life has been different around my house.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">My daughter and her husband and my two grandkids have come to stay here. They've been here since the weekend after Thanksgiving. Our little house of two newly retired people has become crazy/loud/busy/messy/fun/amazing these past few weeks.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Backstory: My daughter followed my son in law to England when he got a job there like 7 years ago. They married and had my first grandchild in the UK. Then his job brought him to Southern California 3 years ago, and they had their second daughter. He's a lead artist in the gaming industry. His studio shut down in the beginning of 2020, so he took an East coast job and that leads us to now. I've been collecting them for over 30 years. It started with one mug, given to me by my mother's best friend. She gave me and my first husband some of her old decorations for our first Christmas. We had little money, and they were a joy to have in our little apartment.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: large;">From there, I found some in second-hand a shop in Rehoboth one year. Since then I've found them in antique shops, a lot from Ebay, and from stores and websites. Some newly made ones are sprinkled in with the vintage ones, but most are from the 60's. A big company who manufactured these in Japan was called Holt Howard. Many have the Japan stamp, and a few still have the HH label. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #cc0000; font-size: large;">Probably my favorite one is the size of a blueberry. I found it at the Sea Shell Shop (say that 10 times fast!) in Ocean City, MD. Every year I ask people to try and find it among the mug crowd. This year, the husband hid it (in plain sight). Can you find it?</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l0geCLBloOM/X8O8JRWS_VI/AAAAAAAALIY/IF6RaLwc5g4IN5Ekde8uP8lAvIYvwfvWgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/B4917C9C-9F0B-4506-82E3-37A7F773F488.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l0geCLBloOM/X8O8JRWS_VI/AAAAAAAALIY/IF6RaLwc5g4IN5Ekde8uP8lAvIYvwfvWgCNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/B4917C9C-9F0B-4506-82E3-37A7F773F488.heic" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QywhIEcMrKw/X8O8Q_IYckI/AAAAAAAALIc/EUWEJxN72wgVhRqJdlhR7ZFTLMLKaTsRwCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/D2FE96DE-1534-467F-A645-CCA1FE9A7C04.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QywhIEcMrKw/X8O8Q_IYckI/AAAAAAAALIc/EUWEJxN72wgVhRqJdlhR7ZFTLMLKaTsRwCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/D2FE96DE-1534-467F-A645-CCA1FE9A7C04.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bj5YDWXaQQY/X8O8Zmha8tI/AAAAAAAALIk/m1fWfKIIr2ksSjyK8DBVUraG2FuLPoKggCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/A54A4EA8-286E-45FB-B2A8-ED00C4499EC8.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bj5YDWXaQQY/X8O8Zmha8tI/AAAAAAAALIk/m1fWfKIIr2ksSjyK8DBVUraG2FuLPoKggCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/A54A4EA8-286E-45FB-B2A8-ED00C4499EC8.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6MtLTR-W4qA/X8O8huxyjiI/AAAAAAAALIs/oTpMECc-rdAoXMV1FbvVAEuKB1O0Pbi3ACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/A44A94A6-C9E6-4421-A68F-5E444B444BB1.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6MtLTR-W4qA/X8O8huxyjiI/AAAAAAAALIs/oTpMECc-rdAoXMV1FbvVAEuKB1O0Pbi3ACNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/A44A94A6-C9E6-4421-A68F-5E444B444BB1.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IiQzQPDsaPA/X8O8tlVxyKI/AAAAAAAALI0/bQ274RPi4usVNbZ1OHv4cCH6lc1L89yPACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/DBFC49CD-717C-4656-92B3-009EEC16644B.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="225" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IiQzQPDsaPA/X8O8tlVxyKI/AAAAAAAALI0/bQ274RPi4usVNbZ1OHv4cCH6lc1L89yPACNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h225/DBFC49CD-717C-4656-92B3-009EEC16644B.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: large;">You'll probably have to zoom in a little, but he's in there! I hope that you all stayed safe. We had my son here, but we were blessed with weather in the low 70's and we ate outside at a distance. I made all the trimmings. This year, I kept the turkey simple. I usually use Martha Stewart's "Turkey 101" recipe, which is foolproof. This year, I tried Pioneer woman's turkey recipe. You just cook it on a lower temp for hours, then rub it with minced rosemary(fresh cut from the garden!) orange peel and a stick of butter and turn the heat up. It was SO good! It made the best gravy.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">My daughter and family are in town, awaiting their Covid test results before moving in with us for a while. They moved from California by a slow trek in their car. They're staying in a hotel until the tests prove negative, just as a precaution.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Here's a belated home treasure. In the process of clearing out some stuff under the guest room bed, I found a small box of old family tin types and this old Christmas card of sorts. The people who are mentioned in it are long gone. I thought that it was so sweet.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IsAfa1cqNfU/X8KsV0amx7I/AAAAAAAALHo/cF0DXHAYOSIz12eLRVI8hp_QZJ4UklrEgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/86184447-7752-49A2-90E2-C76F815C7081.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IsAfa1cqNfU/X8KsV0amx7I/AAAAAAAALHo/cF0DXHAYOSIz12eLRVI8hp_QZJ4UklrEgCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h266/86184447-7752-49A2-90E2-C76F815C7081.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xNVPLmkMe-4/X8KsgZXrEPI/AAAAAAAALHs/k70xc_91ZYoLBe-URWN3F6Su-_2UuydQwCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/68A493A9-E959-49FF-8332-1B3B1524AD2F_1_201_a.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1486" data-original-width="2048" height="290" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xNVPLmkMe-4/X8KsgZXrEPI/AAAAAAAALHs/k70xc_91ZYoLBe-URWN3F6Su-_2UuydQwCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h290/68A493A9-E959-49FF-8332-1B3B1524AD2F_1_201_a.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0 0 0 40px; padding: 0px;"><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Unopened, this little book is only 4 inches by 3 inches. Since then, I did a bit of research, and found out that it's most likely German made. There's a region in Germany in the Ore Mountains called Erzgebirge. They are famous for their little wooden figurines just like my grasshopper. The pattern came out in 2016, so I know that I bought it at some festival within the last 4 years. Probably the Alpaca Festival, held in November at a fairgrounds in Maryland. Anyway, the yarn was in a beautiful purple toule drawstring bag with a business card that had a place to download the pattern and a coupon code to buy it for free! The yarn is a silk blend, and is so soft.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">So, off I go on this one:</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Te_Ji_6_29o/X7bynH2h31I/AAAAAAAALG8/XuV4DhvkF8kS8m_QASMCHeraloYBreJ8QCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/C3B80B00-6F72-40BB-A3C8-0D38E2C267BA.heic" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Te_Ji_6_29o/X7bynH2h31I/AAAAAAAALG8/XuV4DhvkF8kS8m_QASMCHeraloYBreJ8QCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/C3B80B00-6F72-40BB-A3C8-0D38E2C267BA.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">It's a color work cowl that's knit in a tube. Then you join the ends when you're done. The contrasting yarn has beautiful color changes, but it has very little spin! Like knitting fiber roving, almost. And it keeps breaking while I'm knitting it, because there's no spin (hence, no strength). But I'm tenacious and will knit to the end. </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YqJ_IHF2t70/X7bzQqF_d5I/AAAAAAAALHE/xJOT0e10-GkK1LLOG3uNBhn3m3CXikfvQCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/FBDB2A18-54C7-44A6-99EB-A047D79A09B9.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YqJ_IHF2t70/X7bzQqF_d5I/AAAAAAAALHE/xJOT0e10-GkK1LLOG3uNBhn3m3CXikfvQCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h266/FBDB2A18-54C7-44A6-99EB-A047D79A09B9.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">See? The sleeves will be started tonight, most likely. As you can see, the purple skeins aren't the exact same color. The one in the middle is a tone lighter. It's evident in this picture, but in most light it's almost impossible to tell. I didn't even notice it until this picture. I'm hoping that once it's all done, it won't be an issue.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Finally, a little Friday home treasure. When I helped my father move out of his house (the same house to which they brought me home from the hospital as a newborn) we went through drawers and drawers of stuff. This little guy was in a desk drawer, hiding under a bunch of old pencils with dried up erasers and rulers and paper clips. I didn't know his origin, but I took him home. He makes me smile. He's only 2 1/2 inches tall, and plays his horn solo. I wonder sometimes if he was once a member of a bigger grasshopper band that's long gone. </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-etoQ46igJQM/X67KURZIzjI/AAAAAAAALGM/0BLoQtXwAFkFV-WbBrOqiYdpgP8yvyEeACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/C5EF5C00-D8A9-45B9-BED2-B736678BEEB8.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-etoQ46igJQM/X67KURZIzjI/AAAAAAAALGM/0BLoQtXwAFkFV-WbBrOqiYdpgP8yvyEeACNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/C5EF5C00-D8A9-45B9-BED2-B736678BEEB8.heic" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oPKquSS2I1s/X67KrJzpPrI/AAAAAAAALGU/y18mIyX3f_wQ7IXTNm-z1CkZonqJwFu6QCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/F9C5B016-D092-4E1D-98DE-D27102F16B8A.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oPKquSS2I1s/X67KrJzpPrI/AAAAAAAALGU/y18mIyX3f_wQ7IXTNm-z1CkZonqJwFu6QCNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/F9C5B016-D092-4E1D-98DE-D27102F16B8A.heic" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z_NMLLlAUUg/X67K4iqvXDI/AAAAAAAALGY/BGJwwxGdYaYepSUJHG7TTUkyLsumUcbyACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/ED8D6137-33E6-46E9-A2E6-A587A3094700_1_201_a.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1249" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z_NMLLlAUUg/X67K4iqvXDI/AAAAAAAALGY/BGJwwxGdYaYepSUJHG7TTUkyLsumUcbyACNcBGAsYHQ/w244-h400/ED8D6137-33E6-46E9-A2E6-A587A3094700_1_201_a.jpeg" width="244" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Enjoy your weekend! </span></p>Minervahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16412414063488628467noreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7611067468964663197.post-61007164297678383732020-11-06T12:32:00.000-05:002020-11-06T12:32:13.043-05:00Friday Home Treasure<p style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Today's treasure was my parent's. Most of my old treasures are from my family, and I have remembered them existing most of my life. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">This is a little Japanese carved frog that fits in the palm of my hand. I did a little research (Translation: I put "Japanese wood frog" in the search option on Ebay.com) and found out that it's made from Cryptomeria wood. It is amazingly light, kind of like balsam wood. Cryptomera is a Japanese cedar. </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iSZZ_h7-9gY/X6WG8QBaZqI/AAAAAAAALFQ/VP8QoMgs7GU-D_oRNq0kDld3HXVpB8voACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/FA655647-6B71-478F-BE14-ED4A1091BEAC.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iSZZ_h7-9gY/X6WG8QBaZqI/AAAAAAAALFQ/VP8QoMgs7GU-D_oRNq0kDld3HXVpB8voACNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/FA655647-6B71-478F-BE14-ED4A1091BEAC.heic" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sHsUPsNz9_k/X6WHHVN_TuI/AAAAAAAALFU/2Idw0Xdl6HQfTvmgm2Nt7f8BkX5P-a7AACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/281BBA15-9F67-4348-90B8-412A5717F0F4.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sHsUPsNz9_k/X6WHHVN_TuI/AAAAAAAALFU/2Idw0Xdl6HQfTvmgm2Nt7f8BkX5P-a7AACNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/281BBA15-9F67-4348-90B8-412A5717F0F4.heic" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aVCQ0eGfkLU/X6WHQ-pC_EI/AAAAAAAALFc/FtqXeIIERWkRJN0xFAVTpDRmHbmTL2oeQCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/8E8C284D-DCEE-4BED-9048-5F4021F59423.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aVCQ0eGfkLU/X6WHQ-pC_EI/AAAAAAAALFc/FtqXeIIERWkRJN0xFAVTpDRmHbmTL2oeQCNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/8E8C284D-DCEE-4BED-9048-5F4021F59423.heic" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Have a great weekend! I was knee deep in German short rows and Asian short ribs.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">First, I'm on the body of the yoke sweater now, and I'm about to do some German short row shaping. I've watched 3 different YouTube videos to be sure that I have it mastered. I have done short row wrap and turns many times, but German short rows are kind of new to me.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Second, I used my Instant Pot today. I'm late to the IP party. I bought one about a year ago on sale for about half price in a kitchen store in the mall. I was a bit scared of it for a while. Then, I spoke to some friends and decided to try. I use it maybe 2 or 3 times a month. A friend gave me a really good book that has step-by-step recipes.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rrRUkLhB-40/X6R7TmRiSHI/AAAAAAAALE8/PnobgaWHYnYIGrmjFJYOf4_3KlVbORglgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/06139744-6378-479F-85CB-42870F3A7B4D.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rrRUkLhB-40/X6R7TmRiSHI/AAAAAAAALE8/PnobgaWHYnYIGrmjFJYOf4_3KlVbORglgCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/06139744-6378-479F-85CB-42870F3A7B4D.heic" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">So, I made the Asian short ribs.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NwKeIPtZOPI/X6R7fGMV5hI/AAAAAAAALFA/IrxaVHvsFyo2zVHlk7jVciwhz1B9XOYLACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/6E293A40-5CF9-4808-B778-24860AE9CB3E.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NwKeIPtZOPI/X6R7fGMV5hI/AAAAAAAALFA/IrxaVHvsFyo2zVHlk7jVciwhz1B9XOYLACNcBGAsYHQ/s320/6E293A40-5CF9-4808-B778-24860AE9CB3E.heic" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">They were good. The sauce was super strong, and you didn't need much. I served them over rice and totally forgot to steam the broccoli. The Burrand Inlet sweater (on Ravelry) is a top down sweater pattern with a yoke. I had bought some yarn the other day on the sale rack at the yarn shop, specifically for this pattern. I inherited it when he died about four years ago. I also inherited his roll-top desk that was his grandfather's. I have no idea where or when he got this monkey, but it has always been in my memory. Growing up, it sat on a shelf in the living room. Today, he sits on a shelf in the bookshelf portion of the roll-top along with some of my father's books. He looks pensive as he smokes his pipe. Much like I remember my father, a former academic who smoke a pipe up until the late 70's. He died at the age of 92, and had an amazing life. I mostly miss his dry humor and the way he would always end our phone conversations with, "Ok, kid". </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sd45Yea2DuU/X5x7g9_Yx4I/AAAAAAAALDI/JP4EsA93DxMRwPd5GiFsVGrURiUXhauwgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/1290B3F1-E333-444C-9231-99EDC9C468F4.heic" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sd45Yea2DuU/X5x7g9_Yx4I/AAAAAAAALDI/JP4EsA93DxMRwPd5GiFsVGrURiUXhauwgCNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/1290B3F1-E333-444C-9231-99EDC9C468F4.heic" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TMsxQSbP_G0/X5x7ujIHeDI/AAAAAAAALDM/LIFG9dT9lKoGLwg-VXyrhDav0dYS3znjwCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/8AA8B553-7FC6-4C95-9E8C-0DDA1451837C.heic" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TMsxQSbP_G0/X5x7ujIHeDI/AAAAAAAALDM/LIFG9dT9lKoGLwg-VXyrhDav0dYS3znjwCNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/8AA8B553-7FC6-4C95-9E8C-0DDA1451837C.heic" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dC2NUYS7SBY/X5x75_Hl0VI/AAAAAAAALDQ/JxKf_pPONr04L4OiQtZrgnTZQCSLT9F-gCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/22B4CFFF-5F36-484F-91D0-57AD970260DF.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dC2NUYS7SBY/X5x75_Hl0VI/AAAAAAAALDQ/JxKf_pPONr04L4OiQtZrgnTZQCSLT9F-gCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h266/22B4CFFF-5F36-484F-91D0-57AD970260DF.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">He was a much more distinguished primate than his little keepsake.</span></p>Minervahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16412414063488628467noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7611067468964663197.post-61944763393461770302020-10-29T17:59:00.003-04:002020-10-29T18:01:47.052-04:00Thursday<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I went somewhere yesterday with a friend in my "Covid pod". In other words, she's someone who I trust lives as I do and is not a risk. We get together now and then. So yesterday, we went to our local yarn store.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">We were the only customers. Their rules are only 4 customers in the store at one time (not a problem in this case) and you have to make a bee-line to back of the store and wash your hands as soon as you arrive. And of course, you must wear a mask.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I bought some Malibrigo Rios worsted weight to make a cowl. It has soaked and now is gently spinning in my washer. I'm hoping that the main color hasn't bled into the contrasting color too much. It's actually my daughter's. When she was at college, she had a very good friend (and still is her good friend) named Andy. He was a film maker, a photographer, a pianist, and an artist. He went on to work for the Discovery Channel, I believe. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Anyhoo...He always gave my daughter thoughtful birthday gifts that he made himself. This is an origami koi fish that he made over weeks. It's made from a one dollar bill. I think that it's amazing. It resides in my house currently, because my daughter moved to England after college and left many things behind for me to keep for a while. After five years (and a husband and 2 kids and the dog) she moved to Southern California. BUT..in November they are all driving back here and will live close to me again! So Mr. koi will probably go to its rightful owner. </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8FtqKLkfAJ4/X5MMkMayoSI/AAAAAAAALAk/NEs7yRZMzjMfXcwp0ncDgLCeIktlWBbOgCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/9B759A71-E0E8-469F-8EFE-827D34AAE60C.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8FtqKLkfAJ4/X5MMkMayoSI/AAAAAAAALAk/NEs7yRZMzjMfXcwp0ncDgLCeIktlWBbOgCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h266/9B759A71-E0E8-469F-8EFE-827D34AAE60C.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3CJiLYn8kQk/X5MMrFr4VbI/AAAAAAAALAo/HaQWBExePgckLaK93G4yjSLlWefoYfhlwCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/A460E3F2-E8F6-4AD8-ADDB-A7371C853162.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3CJiLYn8kQk/X5MMrFr4VbI/AAAAAAAALAo/HaQWBExePgckLaK93G4yjSLlWefoYfhlwCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h266/A460E3F2-E8F6-4AD8-ADDB-A7371C853162.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">He even lined up the design on the dollar to look like eyes! Well, it started out a little rough. My shingles and flu vaccines yesterday were making me a bit achy, but it was nothing that a little ibuprofen didn't take care of.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">So in the afternoon, the husband and I went to the store. I have been reading that flour may be hard to find again soon, so I picked up a bag. Just on a whim, I went down the cleaning aisle and lo and behold, they had disinfectant wipes! I picked up 3 tubs of them. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">While we were in line, I told my husband to go ahead and pay and I'd meet him at the car. I went back and got 3 some more wipes, and then delivered them to 3 different friends who have immunity issues due to cancer and other ailments. It felt good to drop them off on their porches. These wipes are such a rare thing to see these days!</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">On to knitting...</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I received a package today. I bought some yarn during NY State Sheep and Wool Festival (Rhinebeck) during their virtual event last weekend. I've been to the actual festival once with friends. It wasn't the same, but I did find some nice yarn.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WGnwqcagmow/X5HhgtSNFiI/AAAAAAAAK_8/jHCJnKboNwwFTJ3hDmw3WL-s6eLD0iUNwCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/B77EF745-4ADE-4446-8C9E-25A927983AE5.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WGnwqcagmow/X5HhgtSNFiI/AAAAAAAAK_8/jHCJnKboNwwFTJ3hDmw3WL-s6eLD0iUNwCNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/B77EF745-4ADE-4446-8C9E-25A927983AE5.heic" width="300" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">This is why I love getting yarn from independent dyers/spinners. Svengoolie is a really campy movie host out of Chicago that shows really campy (and sometimes classic) horror movies. His puns and corny jokes make you moan, but for some reason, it has become a tradition for us to watch him every Saturday night. I think it gives me warm fuzzies because it reminds me of being in college and watching bad Saturday night movies in the dorm lounge with a bunch of friends. Back then, the hosts were out of Cleveland. Big Chuck and Little John. Back East, we had Count Gore De Vol out of Washington D.C. I think that every city had a B movie host back in the day. Everyone remembers Elvira! Svengoolie is a hold-out from that era. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">On to knitting...</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fwhxzna6uk4/X4sCJV46JjI/AAAAAAAAK9k/97AVZbrCRxESCoK3t50jB6Gv97VyRrYpQCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/8367E99E-1034-4F76-BAA7-AD56423C9799.heic" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fwhxzna6uk4/X4sCJV46JjI/AAAAAAAAK9k/97AVZbrCRxESCoK3t50jB6Gv97VyRrYpQCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/8367E99E-1034-4F76-BAA7-AD56423C9799.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I had eight balls of this Tahki Tweed (now discontinued) in the stash in Aran weight. From now on, I'm going to have "Home Treasure Friday". As I look around my house, I realize that I have so many things to be thankful for, and so many treasures that either I have acquired or I have had passed down to me. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">So every Friday, I'm going to post pictures of a home treasure. It can be a special yarn that I like, an heirloom that I have from my family or anything from my home that brings me joy (as Ms. Kondo would say). </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Want to join in? Just post one of your own home treasures with a little story about it!</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Here goes:</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RG0yMuTW9CA/X4nOErELJZI/AAAAAAAAK88/l0JW5agtS_gml5z3Qs9AWXHsuqgF2SffACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/431760A2-2842-4461-BCAE-094740248454.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1365" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RG0yMuTW9CA/X4nOErELJZI/AAAAAAAAK88/l0JW5agtS_gml5z3Qs9AWXHsuqgF2SffACNcBGAsYHQ/w266-h400/431760A2-2842-4461-BCAE-094740248454.jpeg" width="266" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">This little cupboard was my Mother's. It's getting cooler, and the plants on the patio are starting to lose their lively look. I cut the basil down to stalks and gave it to my friend when she was here Saturday. She has a dehydrator and will put it in a jar and get it back to me. I told her to keep some, but she has some of her own herbs already dried.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I finished the Desert Frost shawl, and it's blocking in the basement. What a pretty pattern. It'll be perfect for a cold November day.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6_dF7kPtPfk/X4YClGO8_EI/AAAAAAAAK8Y/47uVv8FBnbgBn5itdeG6UX98nu3qeji_ACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/2AC16547-C06E-421C-8D9D-C4AB1F1BF7B8.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6_dF7kPtPfk/X4YClGO8_EI/AAAAAAAAK8Y/47uVv8FBnbgBn5itdeG6UX98nu3qeji_ACNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/2AC16547-C06E-421C-8D9D-C4AB1F1BF7B8.heic" width="300" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I swear, this thing changes color with every picture that I take. </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9sgf8FjFZQ4/X4YDMEg860I/AAAAAAAAK8g/yUKQdsj_Vf4UTmgoWb2Ul95oKkI8o8BoQCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/A9AB2E31-1DC6-4569-B43A-8A7EE2E67D17_1_201_a.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9sgf8FjFZQ4/X4YDMEg860I/AAAAAAAAK8g/yUKQdsj_Vf4UTmgoWb2Ul95oKkI8o8BoQCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/A9AB2E31-1DC6-4569-B43A-8A7EE2E67D17_1_201_a.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">The three sections go together well, and I enjoyed knitting all three. I would knit this pattern again. Although, I think that I'd do it in a merino and not alpaca. I like the alpaca, but the stitch definition would show up better in another fiber, I think. </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a5RwYC1uHJ8/X4YDxjUQ2AI/AAAAAAAAK8o/7-cbqm7pzjsVj--ctA6pqRxlSvzFu7q4QCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/9615D91B-917D-4ACC-8EF5-66019E248482.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a5RwYC1uHJ8/X4YDxjUQ2AI/AAAAAAAAK8o/7-cbqm7pzjsVj--ctA6pqRxlSvzFu7q4QCNcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/9615D91B-917D-4ACC-8EF5-66019E248482.heic" width="300" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I'm now going through Ravelry to find a sweater pattern for this yarn. Not sure when or why I bought it, but I only have 4 skeins (880 yards). So I think it will have to be more like a tee. It's worsted weight merino. Super soft, and I like how the color hasn't saturated the yarn. The search goes on...</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3Jp8hxg7Oo0/X4YEfZaZ1OI/AAAAAAAAK8w/a4bz9rNzV3UNgnVJAxsvp-hT3aUql-amwCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/47B16AB0-7118-4340-8D6D-D20BF0046DD0.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3Jp8hxg7Oo0/X4YEfZaZ1OI/AAAAAAAAK8w/a4bz9rNzV3UNgnVJAxsvp-hT3aUql-amwCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/47B16AB0-7118-4340-8D6D-D20BF0046DD0.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">This old girl went to the vet yesterday. Bella is 13 now ( I thought she was 14 until we checked her chart. Whoops...) and still has a little pep to her. She gets around fine, and lets us know loud and clear when it's dinner time. I've had her since she was 15 weeks old. She puts up with a lot of Reggie's shenanigans, and for that she is a saint. She got a clean bill of health yesterday. They did do some bloodwork, for which I have not gotten the results. But all in all, she's a happy puglet. </span></p>Minervahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16412414063488628467noreply@blogger.com10
